Description

Keeps Pop-Tarts intact if you're carrying them in a jersey pocket, a backpack, or anything that might otherwise mash them.

New version! The old version was two pieces with a separate lid, and I'm happy to announce v3 with an attached flip lid. It's now possible to open and close the box one handed, leaving one hand free for the important task of retrieving and consuming pop tarts! Note that the photos of the red box in jersey pockets and hip bags are the original, but the dimensions remain quite close to the original so it'll fit the same. I've also added ribs for a little bit more toughness. Still available both versions and the full range of colors!

This was a fun project suggested by James Huang. He was lamenting how he loves to bring Pop-Tarts on rides, but they'd usually get smashed in a jersey pocket. Still edible, sure, but a bit messy. There used to be Pop-Tart boxes that you could buy, and you can even still find them on sites like eBay, but he was thinking this was a possible opportunity for something printed. I worked up this design and did some of my own testing, then sent him my prototypes for further testing. He came back with some input (as well as the idea of offering a place to carry a driver's license and credit card) and some fine tuning later, here we are! It's designed to be durable, but still lightweight and simple to use.

Comes in two versions, the plain version, and a version with provision for carrying an ID and credit card. This assumes that the ID matches the size of a standard credit card, which most driver's licenses and state IDs should do at this point. They push in from the top with two detents to keep them from popping out. Push them up from the bottom to get them out. The fit is tight but it's better to not lose the ID or credit card.

I have taken the same Pop-Tarts with me on a couple rides, then had the case in my backpack for a couple weeks. Opened it up and extracted them and they were completely unbruised. I'm also now a convert to the Pop-Tarts for ride fuel idea, so thanks, James!

A note about food safety. 3D printing is generally accepted to not be food safe, and that was my immediate concern, but since the Pop-Tarts come in their own wrappers, they're isolated from direct contact with the printed part. As such, I'd recommend keeping them in the wrappers, even after you've opened it up. The wrapper also fills the extra space in the box and gives them a little more protection. Pop-Tarts are also dry, so it should be less of a concern, but I wanted to make it clear.

Box internal dimensions, in case you need to check off brand "toaster pastries" or have other storage ideas: 3 1/4" x 7/8" x 4 1/2" or 82.5 x 22.2 x 115mm. External dimensions are 117x90x27mm. The basic version weighs 56g, and the version with the card holder weighs 64.
