Description

Works with a conventional tape measure to make measurements easier. A slot in the center puts you on the centerline of your start point, allowing you to get reliable, repeatable measurements.

Available in four versions:

First and most versatile is the conical version which works with any round thing from 6 to 30mm, such as crank axles, 8mm crank bolts, and even Shimano crank tension caps. Using this is as simple as sticking it on the end of your tape measure and pressing the cone into whatever recess you are going to measure from. This one is the most universal and works most anywhere, with the downside being that you have to hold it in place.

The second is a variation on the first, adding an 8mm peg to the conical design. This will allow the tool to hold itself in place on cranks with an 8mm hex retaining screw. Note that the peg is long to work with cranks with recessed sockets, and may be a bit long on the 8mm bolts that retain square taper and older OctaLink cranks, but it will still work with them.

Third is the version which threads into the pedal end of a crank arm for folks who take measurements from the centerline of the pedal spindle. It's less versatile, but quite secure. Using this, thread it in until it stops, and then thread it out until the arrow points in the direction you'll be measuring.

Fourth is a dual purpose tool - it's a Shimano crank cap tool and also gives the centerline reference of the bottom bracket.

All of them include a small magnet to hold the hook of the tape measure. It's strong enough to hold the tool from the hook, and in the case of the first three tools, strong enough to hold the tool (albeit very lightly) on a vertical metal surface.
