I had made handles for spokes that were sharpened to a point - the ubiquitous \"pokey spoke\" that so many bike mechanics use. Trevor liked them, but they weren't big enough, and had the idea of a nice big handle that could work with the shaft of a quick release skewer. Although I don't use my pointy Trevor tool that often, I did come up with a second variation which uses a blunt, polished skewer to insert under MTB grips like the ESI silicone in order to spray some alcohol to make the grips easier to remove.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn the case of the blunt grip removal tool, there is provision for an M5 set screw to keep the shaft from rotating. I don't think this would be up to task if you were trying to make a screwdriver from your old QR skewer, but for rotating the tool under a MTB grip, it's plenty.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAvailable in two versions, the standard plastic handle that looks similar to many screwdriver handles, or the 130x22.2 version which is sized so that you can mount your choice of MTB grip to it. Note that not all MTB grips are that long so might not fit all the way. The threads will be tight, a little bit of oil can help it install without too much trouble but shouldn't be necessary.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSourcing a QR skewer should be easy - there are many QR skewers out there with external cams, and since they're generally useless as an actual quick release, those are perfect donors. I also suggest a rear skewer as that is quite a bit longer, and a front QR skewer might wind up making the tool too short, but can work nicely for the pointy version.
